August 19, 2021 - Since I'd just tried the 2017, and since I've never tried the 2018, I decided to open this wine tonight. Decanted about 40% of the bottle for 60 minutes (left the rest under vacuum cork). Tasted at a chilly European cellar temperature and let the wine warm up. Wow. Compared to the 2017, I get a lot more of the mineral finish that I've heard about with this wine. Mild oak, lots of citrus...just getting going. On day two, tastes like a massive wine. This is exceptional but it's not ready yet: hold for one more year.

July 14, 2021 - Absolutely stunning performance and clearly one of the great vintages of The Judge.
Packed with lots of exotic fruit flavors but also a high level of mineralic influence. The acidity is piercing and balances the wine very nicely.
    Amazing wine!

April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): A gorgeous wine. For me, my experience here is best explained by a comparison some might find unfair. Nevertheless, here goes nuthin’….. Take all of your favorite things about Aubert’s best Chardonnays; now throw out all the nonsense heavy vanilla oak and saccharine slathering that has often plagued those wines when young and ultimately forbidden the purity of fruit from totally shining through; finally, ratchet-up the perception of tension and acidity a tick or two…and you’ll have the glorious 2018 Judge.

Fresh lemon juice, pear, unripe peach, lemon confit, unripe mango, and the slightest touch of vanilla (but not sweet). The Judge strikes a nice divide between California and Burgundy. It is notably not Burgundian in its total profile, but it steers completely clear of domestic popcorn butter bombing as well. It avoids the confection saccharinity of fat fruit and heavy oak but doesn’t sacrifice concentration to do it. It reminds me of a top Meursault 1er with a little extra California flex. A beautiful wine. 95-97 points. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

April 29, 2021 - Needs at least an hour in the glass then bingo bango. What a complete wine with a finish that goes on and on. It’s a big wine that is still years away from its prime. Worth the hype. Revisit 2023.

July 8, 2019 - 2018 (fatprøve). Lyche, grapefrukt, noe oksid, meget lang, full, allerede kompleks, moderat+ syre, typisk Napa chard. Tannisk, mye tørrstoff også. Stor vin -- in the making, men uvant stil for meg som har hvit burgunder som referanse for Chardonnay.
