Community Tasting Notes 12

August 7, 2023 - I would say for the price and pedigree this was disappointing; it wasn't bad per se, though there was quite a bit of funk on the nose that I still think may be a bit of over aggressive reduction; that said the fruit and floral notes come around and the funk adds some interesting character without being overwhelming. The intensity is fine, but not great and when paired with some nice Burgundy essentially no one wanted to drink this wine...

July 14, 2023 - This has made amazing progress since my last note here just a few’monrhs ago. Or perhaps it was the 90 minute decant I skipped in May. Rich and round now, with strong but smooth tannins, Aromas of smoked turkey leg, toasted walnuts, black cherry compote with cinnamon, shoe polish, iodine and black plum. Gorgeous! Soft and silky mouthfeel, most of those flavors carry through, with a bit of graphite and heat on the medium length finish. Air helps cocoa dusted violets come through. Also, some delightful Candela green cigar wrapper!! I see this gaining a point or two by 2025. Seductive and irresistible tonight with pecan shell grilled quail, glazed with pomegranate molasses , pink peppercorn, buckwheat honey, and ginger.

June 19, 2023 - Blind tasting. Wonderful nose of cranberry with Vosne spice. This was also the appellation that received the most guesses. Ripe fruit on the palate, excellent freshness.

May 3, 2023 - Nose offers black cherry, roasted red pepper, eucalyptus, and cassis. Needed 30 minutes in the glass to open, still young. Wet mushrooms covered in black wormy earth, black plums, fireplace ash, and dark cherries. Medium weight, tannins not yet fully integrated. This will improve over next few years. Still tightly wound, and secondary notes have yet to fully develop. Most Rose and Arrow has at least a suggestion of volcanic basalt and crushed rock.. This bottle currently leans more toward dark earth and riper fruits, but time will tell.

March 12, 2023 - Blind tasting session. Lots of funky, red fruit aromas on the nose. Polished, palate. Good but my last showing was even more convincing as there was more aromatic energy.
