August 24, 2021 - 17x Bordeaux 1982-1990 (+ 2 Martha’s): All wines tasted single blind. This La Mission showed quite great with lots of fresh dark and blue fruit and lots of minerality as well as some tertiary aromas. True to the vintage, this was one of the more classic, more masculine wines of the evening. What was missing for an even higher score? The nose could have been more expressive and more precise and on the palate a bit more seductive creaminess would have helped. But overall this is a beautiful wine which will improve further with more age (it certainly has the structure and fruit).

TN: Medium+ expressive nose which is very dark fruit and minerality driven along with some hints of brett and an herbal backbone. Not perfectly clean but still inviting nose. Lots of power, intensity and tension on the palate with lots of minerality, dark and even fresh blue fruit, wet earth and some herbs. With some time even some nutty notes peaked trough. The tannins are soft and without any edges, the acidity is med+ high but well integrated, the texture is light and fresh, the finish is of medium length and with good intensity and the overall balance is very good.

Decanting: Decanted for roughly 2-3 hours. I guess, this must have helped here.

    Group score: 94.8 pts
Group rank: Shared 10th out of 16 reds

June 30, 2021 - Brought on release and well stored. I read the most recent reviews which seemingly alternated between an just ok bottle and a good bottle. I was hoping for the best. But no luck.

Did slow ox for about two hours and then full decant. It got slightly better at the end. Light and bereft of fruit. No mistaking it for other than bordeaux.

    June 26, 2021 - Bordeaux 1982-1990 tasting (Restaurant Essen'z, Brugg)

    2-3 hours decanted

Nose: Wow so present, medium + intense, lots of dark and also some red fruit and not as mature as other Bordeaux. Virbrating with wet rocks!
Teritory aromas come out more and more with more time in the glass: present Cabernet spice, leather, farm.

Palate: So fresh and horny, medium + acidity and with medium tannins that are extremely soft. Has that beloved Bordeaux melt (personal affinity).

June 26, 2021 - Bordeaux 1982-1990 tasting (Restaurant Essen'z, Brugg): Bordeaux 1982-1980 tasting of selected wines, including a couple of pirates. All wines were decanted for at least 2-3 hours, tasted in flights of 2 and single-blind. While not a representative sample, I would venture the following observations: 1/ First growths in 1988 should not be underestimated for the hedonistic pleasure they offer, 2/ 1990 first growths have not yet passed through their closed stage, 3/ you’ll find stand-out second tier wines from 1982. 4/ Highlights were Palmer 89 and Gruaud Larose 82 (96 each).

    Tasting note:
Wet leaves, earth and leather dominate. Nice and round, quite juicy with fresh acidity, although structurally this did not feel entirely sound and lacked harmony. The impression I was left with was that the 1986 manage to move past its peak before ever reaching it - if that makes sense.

June 5, 2021 - nose- wet hay, dung pile, turned earth, horse sweat
mouth - cigar, and smoke - reminds me of a mescal. At this point the tertiary flavors are overwhelming and overall i found it not very enjoyable for drinking. better for sniffing.
