January 4, 2023 - If only to break up the string of reviews, here’s my $.02. The 2015 Vodopivec Vitovska has an attractive pale salmon robe (somewhere between Coho and Pink, for those who’ve fished in Alaska). The nose is less than forthcoming on opening with a bit of a stink that quickly blows off. This gives way to pretty bruised peach, ripe melon, and—not unpleasant—decaying orange blossom aromas. The palate is firm, verging on muscular, with salted peach, loamy earth, iron, and preserved lemon rind flavors. There’s ripeness alright and deft broadness to the plate that works admirably with oxidative nature of the wine. The finish is long and rising with a faint, compelling bitterness on the end. Very good with Sara Jenkins’ shrimp with rosemary and garlic recipe and leftover hoppin’ John, though I might add a bit of tomato just to bridge the earthiness of the wine and black-eyed peas and the sweetness of the Carolina Gold rice and a shrimp. Perhaps not the “perfect” pairing but immensely satisfying and enough to have me looking online for more bottles.

December 15, 2022 - With normal glass stem, rather cheesy and metalic (like dusty copper coin). Switched to thin clay cup and it shined.

    Day 1 (at low temperature):
Color - bright deep yellow (was expecting darker orange).
Nose - intense bonito broth, mushroom broth, miso / sake lee, and ripe persimmon (totally Japanese).
In the mouth, extremely concentrated bonito and mushroom broth - tons of amino acid umami. Went well with ungrounded parmiginano cheese (intensity vs intensity combo). Hard to rate. 90.

    Day 2 (at room temperature):
    Color - orange.
Nose - apricot, yellow hawthorn, golden gooseberry, and camomile.
Mouth confirms nose. Same intensity of broth umami, but with fruit elements noted above, overall impression converted to dry yellow fruits and potpourri. Finishes long and consistent. 90-91.

Day 3-4 - color got light brown. Smells and taste like expensive matured Pu Er tea (raw/unfermented one). Long and intense finish. 90-91.
