September 21, 2017 - Beautiful anis and schist on the nose (we decanted two hours). Primary fruit is red up front fading to some purple but drowned out by some pine tar, dark volcanic stone and an herbaceous quality that isn't a flaw but is a little perplexing as it arrives late, almost like a Campari on the back palate but with little augering. The lees are really heavy but flaky, not crystallized. The edges are ruby red. A bit of a quandary but an enjoyable wine.

March 22, 2017 - perhpas some VA on the nose here distracting. In the mouth i see a vein of very rich, pure and refined fruit, but overall i wonder if this was an off bottle.

March 13, 2017 - Drinking really well, ripe without being pruney or hot - much better than janasse chaupin of same vintage. Drink now or over 3 yrs.

NOSE: sweet raspberry Twizzlers; hints of garrigue and funk; fumey; medium+ expressiveness.

BODY: sediment present; violet color of great depth; medium to medium-deep depth.

TASTE: earthy; sweet plums; hint of tertiary development; not closed, but seems a bit reserved/tight; a bit warming in the belly (15.5% alc.); sweet raspberry note pushes forward on the finish; medium-low acidity; a touch bitter; still some drying tannin; not yet at peak, but I do wonder if the alc. will prevent favorable ageing moving forward; finish is long and of medium to medium-strong intensity; this is a big wine, for sure. Drink or Hold.
