    June 18, 2022 - Funky nose blew off with a 30 minute decant. Pomegranate, boysenberry and saddle leather nose. Still lots of fruit on the palate…red fruit, cedar and graphite. Tannins persist; mineral driven medium finish.

Much more refined and softer; earthier, with mature leather and soil aromas. Aged currants and cigar flavours, low chalky tannins, medium acid, medium weight on the palate. Medium length, savoury and pretty finish, if a little tremulous. I suppose you can’t really talk about how a wine is ‘supposed’ to show at 35 years old, but this was well away from the last two tastings. Soggy cork, but the level was not compromised. Again, I suspect an outlier, but on this tasting the end is approaching for this wine.

    (Château Gruaud Larose) Group's #4 (my #3) – 26 pts.; 1, 0, 2, 1 - bricking medium dark red violet color; maturing, tart black fruit, tobacco, leather nose; mature, tart black fruit, tobacco, charcoal palate with a trace of pepper; medium-plus finish (this bottle was showing its age much more than prior bottles I've tried)

    (Château Gruaud Larose) Tasted in a flight with the '82 and '89 Gruaud Larose, and this one had a slight edge over those vintages: dark red violet; tobacco and tart cassis nose; good, focused tart cassis, tobacco and iron palate with much smoother tannins than anticipated; medium-plus finish 95+ pts.
