July 25, 2023 - Color appropriate to age. Plenty of sweetness still, and balancing acidity. Asparagus in evidence but in the background. Nice.

March 6, 2021 - Fun dessert wine. Little waft of smoke on the nose immediatlely after opening (which was funny since we drank next to a fire pit). Amber hue was striking and unexpected. Light honey, apricot, very light, nicely structured and balanced. Great alternative to those cloying/syrupy dessert wines. Great surprise!

March 6, 2021 - Moderately sweet, with honeyed apricot, and wisps of of smoke and light savory accents. My friend Tony said it was like “half a Sauternes,” which was funny, but also true in ways. I enjoyed this.

September 26, 2020 - I had planned to coravin a glass but as I did the wine started spraying everywhere out of the sides of the cork!! What a mess. I sealed it all up with wax, but the small pour I had was so good I decided to just go for it and open it. The cork was a mess, dried up and almost honeycombed, but the wine was amazingly intact and no oxidized notes as you might expect.
Color was a beautiful golden not quite amber. Aromas of honey and fruit. On the palate some unusual vegetal flavors that I didn’t love, and something else I could name until I read MC2s review. Smoke. Definitely a smoky flavor that was quite pleasant. Sweeter than I expected from the reviews, this was a full on dessert substitute. Even better on day 2 with the veg notes dropping out but the apricot and other fruits more dominant. Overall, a very nice experience from what I thought would be a disaster.

July 28, 2018 - First visit to Cafe Matisse (Friends House + Cafe Matisse): What a fun and interesting wine. This really holds its age quite well (hard to believe it's 28 years old). Most folks got a lot of fruit here, but the dominating flavor for me was smoke. And maybe even a hint of coffee notes. Some fruit, but it's more muted. A very tasty wine though.
