July 8, 2023 - Tasted again (from a new bottle), this time primarily from the Jancis Robinson glass, with results pretty much identical to my experience of a couple of days ago (primarily from the Conterno glass). I now feel that these two glasses are entirely interchangeable for this wine. Also worth mentioning: both two days ago and today, I initially felt that the score should be 92 or at most 93 points, and it only reached 94 points after about an hour and a half in the glass. But, both times, after maybe another hour in the glass (all these times are very approximate), the score went back down to 93. So timing matters for this wine. To get the best out of this wine, you need to plan to give it significant attention and to take prompt advantage of the point when it peaks (which, from your cellar and at your temperature and from your glasses may be a bit different than it was from mine). The key thing is to be aware that, at this stage in its development, the peak does happen and that you'll get the most pleasure from this wine if you catch it.

July 6, 2023 - This needed something like an hour and 20 minutes in the glass to come fully to life. Immediately after opening, blackberries, cherries, leather, a hint of lemon--but hollow in the mouth and with an only medium-length aftertaste. Within minutes it began to change, with the leather and lemon gradually morphing over time into wonderful rich chocolate and mint, and the hollowness replaced by a combination of grace and richness, which then expanded (!) into an exceptionally long aftertaste, ending on a delightful note of cherries and mint. This is a lovely wine! [Tasted over about two hours from the Jancis Robinson, Conterno, and Riedel Vinum Cabernet Sauvignon glasses. The Jancis Robinson and Conterno glasses gave very very similar results--the Riedel, while not bad, was disappointing in comparison. I gave this bottle a week upright for sediment to settle out. The score and the final description reflect the Conterno glass (which I ended up, by the most microscopic of margins, preferring) and the passage of more than an hour and a half.] Yes, this is a candidate for decanting, although I didn't do so. No hurry--this wine has at least seven years ahead of it.

October 30, 2021 - Rich and generous, yet elegant as well, this wine is now very much at its peak. Immediately after opening, black cherries, cocoa, and a lot of tannin. Over the next hour and a half, the tannins fade to the background, and earthy minerals, coffee, blueberries, chocolate, licorice, spices, and especially blackberries come to the fore, along with a hint of mint. This wine starts to be at its best beginning after about half an hour in the glass--but personally I wouldn't want to have missed the earlier stages (so long as there was still plenty left for me when the later stages arrived). Long, long blackberry chocolate aftertaste. Really a wonderful wine, and should remain one for at least seven more years, probably longer.

June 24, 2021 - Beautiful wine, Flowers, dark fruit and just a touch of tobacco on the nose. Medium to full bodied driven by rich dark fruits with just a bit of mint chocolate. Acid and tannins meld nicely on the finish. Bottle was in perfect condition - I would expect this to drink well for several years. Exceeded expectations. Solid 92 points

October 4, 2020 - Watching Sunday Night Football with Walter (Eagles vs. 49'ers). Decanted 3 hours before serving. During decant perfumey aroma wafted through the kitchen. Purple-ruby in color. On the palate, I get dark fruit i.e. blueberries, cassis, but particularly dark cherries (I might have guessed Pinot Noir if tasting blind).Walter tastes cinnamon-nutmeg, perhaps allspice. This is a supple velvety wine yet complex. Good finish. Delicious. I believe this wine is at peak, but could stay there for some time.
