Community Tasting Notes 9

December 17, 2021 - Prior bottle was a bit over 6 months ago and my notes were yet again consistent. White peach, melon and floral notes continue to dominate the nose. Again, between light and medium bodied with rounded white peach and slightly more tart white pear upfront. Adds more white peach through the middle, but in a rounded, more open fashion. There were some tropical and other softer whitefruit highlights starting to creep in towards the back. Finish continues to show good citrus notes, combined with balanced acidity. I would drink this wine over the next 12+ months to allow it to show its best.

Especially on the cooler side, I understand why many reviews (mine included) didn't find this wine to be on the same level the professional reviewers did. However, as the wine warmed, the nose started to take on more classical notes and the backside starts to show more citrus and acidity. I don't believe the wine deserved some of the higher scores it received, but I understand how they could be justified and why they were given.

June 10, 2021 - Prior bottle was only five months ago and my notes were generally consistent. White peach, melon and floral notes on the nose. Just a hint of saline now in the background. Between light and medium bodied with white peach and white pear again the dominant upfront notes. Mid-body is a bit more rounded and displays a bit more depth than previously, adding melon and more open white peach. Felt like there was just a bit more balancing acidity on the backside in this bottle (bottle variation) than my prior one, which was a positive addition to contrast and backbone. When combined with nicely tart citrus notes, it provided more length on the finish than prior bottles showed. This doesn't have the drive of the best Albarinos, but it shows its fruit quite well and when served chilled, the contrasting citrus and acidity provide good definition. This wine was never designed to be held, but rather, to be drunk and enjoyed and I'll plan to open my last bottle in July 2021.

January 12, 2021 - Prior bottle was nearly seven months ago and my notes were consistent. Floral, white peach and other tart, white orchard fruit notes on the nose, but noticeably less in terms of saline qualities. Close to medium bodied with the same mix of white peach and more tart white pear both upfront and through the middle. Good citrus qualities remain on the backside along with solid acidity. Overall, while the fruit shows good expression (as it did in the first bottle), the acidity and tart notes on the back side have integrated more quickly than I anticipated. While enjoyable, it didn't have the cut or contrast that I look for and enjoy in Albarino. That's not to say it has none of those qualities, just not enough to justify the high professional scores in my opinion. It's quite drinkable and pretty, but doesn't have enough varietal character to justify a higher score. I will probably open my next bottle in late Q2 2021 as this isn't a wine designed for long term cellaring.

July 19, 2020 - Delightfully fruity, apricot-white blossom notes. Nice complement to poached salmon or chicken breast. Albarino is my favorite summer white.

July 1, 2020 - I have been looking for this kind of quality Albarino for 5 years, and here it come in at $13!. Great floral/tropical nose, medium weight throughout the mid-palate, and that signature salinity on the finish.
