September 2, 2019 - The Yquem 1989 (from half bottles) is a volatile beast and we have ploughed through about half a case of halves and decided to throw the towel and sell the rest. This bottle was the last half in my Eurocave. Served side by side Climens 07 this fox coloured specimen gave pleasure but wasn't earth-shaking - at least an acceptable bottle - note-ably less sweet then the Climens at this stage (although the Climens was not cloying as it had the acidity to balance it), quite salty and smokey with some toffee notes. A nice glass of Sauternes.

    July 14, 2019 - I love Sauternes!
Dark high-carat gold, maybe "strawberry blond" almost.
Typically, complex somewhat overwhelming noble bouquet. Such joy.
Honey, syrupy viscosity, possibly light hints of subtle lime and possibly a hint of chocolate.
Very complex and wonderful to enjoy. LOOONNNNGGGGG.
Great with the foie gras and brioche!!!

July 1, 2019 - Very sweet but missing the acidity needed to make this a higher score.

June 22, 2019 - Hugh’s bottle. Wine of the Night, as Château d’Yquem often is. Gorgeous balance, not too gloppy, sweet or honeyed. Almost reserved in Sauternes terms, the fruit emphasizes peach rather than orange peel. Just the right amount of vanilla oak and acid. It’s in the Spring of its life. Wow.

May 29, 2019 - Po’s 89 Bordeaux @ Trompette (La Trompette, London): Really quite medicinal. Deep amber to a touch it tawny. A fair whack of botrytis. Concentrated barley sugar without the apparent sweetness. Concentrated. Some stewed apricot too. Lightens it’s aspect with air, sweetens too and becomes less medicinal. Decent acidity too. I do like this after all. ****

(Château d'Yquem) Light orange color with ruby lights and 1 millimeter clear meniscus; creme brulee, tarte tatin, baked apple nose; youthful, unctuous, rich, baked apple, tarte tatin, poached pear, baked apricot palate; long finish 92+ points (lacking the acidity and complexity of the greatest Yquems)

(Château d'Yquem) Apple, apple brandy, hazelnut nose; coconut, hazelnut, creme brulee palate, very youthful yet; long finish
