January 4, 2023 - Nice flavors but seemed thin and flaccid.

May 4, 2018 - La Fête de La Paulée in Chicago (Formento's - Chicago IL): Late night, small glass, brief note. Red fruit in a leaner style with background spice. Tannins are more firm vs the 2002 but well integrated. Good overall for now, but not quite at Grand Cru density to me.

May 4, 2018 - La Fête de La Paulée: Tasted side-by-side with the 2002. The one shows more dense and brooding vs. the expressive 2002. The flavors and energy here are almost dull in experience. Shows bigger and richer, but without much nuance. Kind of clumsy. I suspect time and air would have settled this down. 90-92? points.

February 4, 2018 - Wines tasted during Super Bowl LII (Chez Kailin): Post-Super Bowl cellar raid treat. This got a quick double decant (I think) before getting passed around. Just starting to show its potential. A good core of red fruit that is elegant despite some still-firm structure beneath. Needs a lot more time or air.

May 25, 2017 - I've had the pleasure of drinking the '02 vintage many times, and was hoping this would be up to the same level but with different characteristics. It's unfortunately not at the '02's level, but then again, that wine is a superstar and in rare air. If I hadn't had the '02 and and expectations or frame of reference I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more.

It's more animal and rustic than I was expecting, though there's an underlying elegance that's undeniable. With time in the glass it softened, and I started to get more flowers to balance out the earthiness. By the time I was done with this wine, I'd had the sense that we drank this entirely too young.

'02's are glorious today, and hopefully in time these '01's will improve to the same level.

(Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Bonnes Mares) Rose petal nose; elegant mid-palate of roses and lightly spiced red fruit, with a light body but good underlying tannins and a good finish. Wow! 94+ pts.
