Community Tasting Notes 5

October 28, 2020 - Hervé Souhaut is an all to often overlooked producer, making available and open wines from the Rhône Valley without compromising with quality. His Romaneaux-Destezet smells of rich yellow stonefruit, flowers, wax and a mellow peppery note. Soft, oily touch of apricot, peach and spice. The slightly low acidity nicely compensated with tangible fruit-stone bitterness. Rich, but balanced. Smashing Viognier-Roussanne blend. Try with rich fish courses or white meat.

October 16, 2020 - Fruit salad aromas and heavy floral notes. Typical viognier.
The palate was lean and not oily, and there were distinctive green, grassy, and herbal notes which, to me, suggested underripe fruit.
    Not great

May 7, 2020 - Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Opened for our Thursday night Zoom Happy Hour in honor of our friend who loves Souhaut - even though we were unable to share. A bit more funk on the nose here than some other St. Joseph Blancs we have been drinking, but this blows off with time in the glass. Some interesting layers here on the palate, with tropical fruit alongside the stone fruit and some good acidity carrying through to the finish. Very enjoyable.

February 21, 2020 - The way to my heart is wonderfully unusual aromas. Here are some - think smokey pineapple and buttered popcorn and maybe stewed apples in simple syrup. No doubt Rhône, this is full bodied and powerful, but not at all sloppy - oak and spice, lean and clean.
