Community Tasting Notes 5

December 9, 2023 - Savagnin ouillé from lieu-dit Sous-Roche in Château-Chalon. The aromas are ripe and rich with a touch of honey, lemon curd, apricots and slightly buttery notes. This is a full-bodied white weighing in at 13,5 % abv, acidity buffered by the sheer concentration of ripe fruit, and just a touch of sweetness. The finish is long and rewarding, and distinctly salty. Drinking really well now and for many years to come. (Disclaimer: ITB with Swedish importer Vin & Natur)

February 12, 2022 - A tad touch of oxidation and smoke buried under layers of baked and salted lemon, baked apple, and honeyed lemon curd, accompanied by crisp minerality. A pleasant Savagnin that would have gone to another level if there had been just a little more acidity and vigour. Still, what a pairing with baked Mont d’Or.

August 8, 2020 - Lots of tropical fruit notes, with peach and pear. Palate had a slight oxidative note which shows in every Savagnin i've had. Acid was there, but just slightly lacking. Really solid wine, but boy it felt like it just needs that ever so slight next level of acidity/energy to get into a level of greatness.

May 5, 2020 - A wine that skilfully combines the traits seriousness and happiness. Fruit is limestoney yellow and exuberant, acidity high-flying like Scottie Pippen released, while the minerality gives length to keep you grounded for longer than Robert Parker can hold his stop watch. Precision, detail, depth and power combined. Savagnin like I've never had it before. Will be exciting to see what happens as it matures in the cellar - if my legendary non-existent character allows this to happen. For those of you who possess at least semblance of patience, I believe this will live a nice and healthy life +10 years easily.

March 28, 2020 - No in depth notes. Baked yellow apples, baked lemon, oxidative notes of fine sherry, some smoke, vibrant acidity, mineral. Wonderful wine that screams out its origin loud and clear. First time with this producer, very promising.
