April 13, 2023 - Took 2 hrs in a decanter to fully express itself.

Gorgeous balance of fruit, floral and earth. Still some tannic structure in place, oak well managed. Silky, elegant, nice flow across the mid palate with a medium length finish. Dark fruited, acid in check. Mocha, dried blackberry with a hint of dried flowers and dried herbs. Blind I would have put this as a Right Bank from a warm year. 95 for now— room for 97-98 in 3-5 more years. Glad I have two more to see how this grows!

September 15, 2019 - Arrow & Branch (with Cristal2000): More serious and firm that the 2015 CF Heritage served beside it, this 2016 has more dark power and grip than its older brother. Black fruit and some burnt embers make up the primary core, with small hits of red fruit and minerality. Less floral notes here. There is a linearity that is all about youthful formidability, but it provides a perfect cut for the darker fruit that just can't wait to push out.

Unlike the 2015, which is from older vines, the 2016 has some younger vine inclusion...and it shows. Personally, I preferred the 2016 slightly and appreciated the extra vibrancy and push. Finishes with black fruit intermixed with black and green peppercorn notes. Hold for another 3-5+ years. 96+ points.

September 14, 2019 - Arrow & Branch Tasting - with CSIMM1161 (AB House): There are 24 cases of this wine that comes from their home estate in Coobsville. Their first vintage, 2015, was exclusively from older vines in specific rows. For 2016, they incorporated some younger vines, but still only produced 24 cases.

When I had the 2015 version of this wine last year I was completely enamored with its incredible aromatics, purity and overall freshness. On this trip I was fortunate enough to have them side by side. By comparison, the 2016 is a much more serious and powerful wine. The aromatics are a bit more constrained here and it shows more fruit than floral. On the palate this is just an amazing beast, with tons of coiled up black cherry fruit framed in by wonderfully fine grained and powerful tannins. It retains most of the beautiful purity and wonderful energy of the 2015, but with more depth. Finishes super long. It's still young and very well structured, so time is going to be your friend here but what a terrific effort. Best drinking window likely 2020-2023
