December 31, 2023 - Nose: wet earth, violet, black fruits, hints of red fruits, nutty, cedar, leather
Notes: what Petrus is able to achieve is equipping all the attributes of a full bodied wine and packing it into a medium bodied wine yet maintaining the balance required for a nice smooth wine. Although I must confess Petrus has never been the most preferred style for me but this 1996 shows a good mix of earthy/leathery notes and floral notes . This is still very young and will take at least another 10 years to integrate. Had 3 bottles tonight with consistent notes, I wish I had more time to breathe the wine the result might have been different.

May 8, 2022 - From Imperial I found this wine very impressive. Great combination of a well calibrated and good quality fruit core with very attractive secondary notes.

January 1, 2022 - Been holding on to this wine for years to have on a special occasion. Beautiful ruby in colour. Notes of red fruit and floral. Very elegant tannins. Great wine, would I pay this again, probably not. Maybe my palate is not refined enough.

April 12, 2019 - Opened at the Leela Palace in New Delhi. Decanted.

Wonderful, approachable Pétrus in a really good spot. Good mix of red and black fruit coming through, balanced by tannins and acidity, all well integrated into a package that went down very very smoothly as you'd expect from a prime expression of Merlot.

Was really lovely to enjoy this with RM - what a way to wrap up India!

March 2, 2019 - An Epic Vertical of Petrus (Ten Trinity Latour Club, London): Far away the most expressive wine of this flight. An explosive nose of violets and flowers. Gorgeous red fruit and blueberries. So beautiful.

September 21, 2013 - At Carelia in Helsinki. Decanted more than one hour. Vibrant nose of mineral, licorice, sous-bois and dark fruit. Medium to full bodied ,very firm and tannic, opulent mineral, licorice and dark fruity flavors. Still very smooth and rich with impeccable balance and a long finish. Great with veal. This was a long dream finally coming through to taste Petrus. We paid 550 € for the bottle that was a decent bargain at a restaurant I would say.

September 22, 2012 - First Day of Autumn with Friends (Lake Forest IL): Popped and poured. Some musty and pre-maturely earthy aromas to start in front on black fruit with plenty of oak spice. More interesting flavors with dense black fruit, somewhat backward, dense and somewhat brooding. This didn't change much in glass over approximately one hour, but it would have been more interesting to revisit this once open 3 or 4 hours.

July 20, 2012 - Sweet cherries, cedar and sous bois. Tightly wound layers and showing promise. Still young but quite charming now with exotic spices and sandlewood.

November 16, 2010 - A level fill, deep ruby with garnet rim. Violets, dark fruits, some vanilla. Very good mouthfeel and texture, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, good length. Lacks quite much in complexity, refinement and nuances for me for a wine of this legendary status.
