June 30, 2020 - According to Kermit Lynch: “In the year 1248, an entire mountainside collapsed on the western end of the French Alps, burying multiple villages and all their inhabitants in the rubble. That pile of limestone now makes up the Savoie cru Les Abymes … vineyard.” 50 year old vines. About 10,000 bottles are made.
The appellation requires that Jacquere be at least 80% of the wine while allowing Aligote, Altesse, Chardonnay or Marsanne to make up the rest of the wine. However, I can’t find any indication whether that’s the case with this wine and wineries won’t always say what their filler grapes are.
This is a crisp clean wine with nice minerality bringing a savory component. Pear fruit. Light, easy and fairly simple, but ideal for Alpine dishes like raclette or fondue where you want something light to counter the heavy cheese. It would also be nice with filet de perche, another common dish in the Savoie/Lake Geneva area.

November 30, 2019 - Taste New Arrivals (San Diego Wine Co.): WAY too cold

“From a 1.14 ha vyd area with 50 yr old vines grown in marl & limestone soils;”

    N: Apples, earth, & something I can't quite ID (almost a maderization?)

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (& that Madeira-like component?) offset by an acidity which keeps things in check into & through the LONG, very, VERY slightly bitterish, yet quasi-rich finish. Different, & not particularly my style, yet, I suspect, reasonably done for what it is. For now & into EARLY '21? 12% ABV; My VG/VG+ (86-89/100 on that metric). [This vendor's $13.99 is $2 < wine-searcher's lowest.]

October 3, 2019 - Monthly Tasting at Wine Wizards: Vibrant acidity, but slightly tannic and not showing the focus of previous vintages. Probably work better with food but not something I need to have.
