December 17, 2022 - Tasted blind, this wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose offered up almond paste, apricot, petroleum jelly, and minerals.

In the mouth, this wine had great richness with moderate acidity and length. It had lovely fruit but I wanted a bit more spine.

I seem to recall having bottles with more verve in the past. Did this need more air or was that just the way this bottle was?

July 28, 2021 - PNP into white wine glass (“Leaf” day): medium copperish golden to the eyes.

Unmistakably clear of the aged examples of this producer.

Incredibly detailed mature apricot and peach notes. Signature black tea leaves notes. Really great as always.

May 29, 2021 - Deep yellow. Petrol and spiced apple scents but clean and no botrytis influence. Lighter bodied, slate base. This is no sweeter than current release Spatlësen-amazing! Lovely in its secondary phase and not that much farther along than when I last tasted it 14 years ago. Hail JJ!!

August 16, 2020 - Tasted blind, this wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose offered up honey, almond paste, citris, dried apricot, minerals, and petroleum jelly.

In the mouth, this wine showed great richness, from its super ripe fruit, but also firm acidity and well integrated texture. While the fruit was borderline exotic, it maintained excellent nuance and complexity.

This wine was so rich, ripe, and extravagant that it could easily be enjoyed with great pleasure. It will also last for 10+ years but I have a hard time imagining it will get better. I would definitely recommend at least 5 hours in a decanter before drinking.

April 24, 2019 - Now their back luck is rubbing off on me. Blargh. The TCA here was pretty mild and there was a lot of wine underneath but with time this went downhill. Sad. Note to self: DO NOT drink old Prum with them again until their bad luck streak breaks.

April 24, 2019 - Corked, continuing an absolutely ludicrous streak of corked Prüm from 1990 and older. Something like 5 out of my last 11 bottles, and that's just this April.

April 24, 2019 - Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): #25-91, 7.5% abv. Is it just me, or is all oldish JJP corked?

September 23, 2018 - Phenomenal wine. Slight petrol nose. Incredible sweet/acid balance. Flavors of citrus (lime, lemon) followed by melon, then tropical fruit, particularly guava. Understated and barely sweet with honeyed botrytis notes. Very long finish. [A.P. 25]

December 1, 2017 - F'n amazing. This is damn near perfect Riesling. Just an amazing scent, combining pretty much every aspect of great Riesling imaginable; ripe fruit, fresh florality, honey, herbs, minerality, and that touch of faint blue cheese-like funkiness I get from old Prüm. The palate is just as incredible - powerful yet incredibly light, with the powerful '90 acids cutting through the richness and sweetness and giving it a remarkably racy and delicate palate presence. Absolutely stunning wine, and I need to find more of these.

December 1, 2017 - Wines with Salil et al.; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (Chicago, IL): #25-91, 7.5% abv. Goldkapsel? More like Plastkapsel. An incredible if slightly understated nose that just screams old Prüm. There are the herbs, fruit, and minerality that you expect, the hint of blue cheese that you get in the WS, and the sweetness of botrytis. The palate follows through on that promise, with the intense 1990 acid racing through an incredible array of flavours. This is on the lighter side of a GKA, showing more emphasis on acidity and raciness, but it is a killer wine all the same.
