June 29, 2019 - Relatively developed and dark color, and not a lot of mousse left. Mature yellow fruit aromas with notes of honey and malt. Good depth and concentration, but has lost some fruit and freshness.

December 15, 2018 - Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Lots of fully mature apple with earth notes. Good acidity and very good weight, but long in the tooth, giving this more yeastiness than I typically find in Chetillons (the successor to this bottling in later vintages). Most likely better 5 years ago.

December 15, 2018 - HDH Dec auction trip/dinners at SKY and RPM Italian; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018: A touch of funk on the nose clears with some air, and beneath are layers of really bright, fresh Chardonnay fruit, chalky minerality, biscuit, and gentle yeastiness. It’s a powerful wine, light on its feet with intense acidity giving it razor-sharp precision, and this is outstanding Champagne.

December 15, 2018 - HDH December auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): A beautiful 1996 champagne. There's a slight funk on the nose (not TCA, despite this wine being from Phil) but I think that's more a function of the old chardonnay than anything else. The palate has tons of minerality and acidity. Super-focussed, brilliant stuff.
