Community Tasting Notes 5

October 11, 2014 - Much better with an hour of decant.
All the musky and sourish taste dissipate and the nice pinot noir comes through.

August 10, 2013 - Very mineral but not a lot of fruit, as you would expect from a wine this age.
Goes well with heavier seafood and white meat.
Acid is still holding well but not for far too long.

March 14, 2013 - PnP - happily this second bottle is in better condition. Again a brick red, clearly brownish at the rim but this time it's a nice transparent color, an expressive nose with again some medicinal notes but there are also some red fruit and it's rather elegant, the texture of the palate feels a bit like a good 40 year old Bordeaux however with higher acidity which makes it a bit fresher, again some medicinal notes and even a vegeteable streak but not unpleasant, elegant medium finish. An interesting and unusual wine particularly for a Bdx drinker, and it's elegant even if it does not posses the commonly accepted features of beauty. Drink up

November 1, 2012 - Bought from wine store last month and seems clearly over the hill. The color already raises concerns, a rather hazy, browning / brick red. A touch of red fruit, stewed vegetables and a medicinal and herbal notes. Sour finish with some bitterness.

January 7, 2012 - Great news! This wine and PP's other 2004s had up until recently been shrill, angular, angry wines. Well, cellar time has rounded this one out and added some depth and texture, making it very pleasing indeed. Deep, tart cherry, peppermint, blood orange and pink peppercorn nose. Some cinnamon and clove. On the palate, more citrus peel, red currant and some baking spice. Lively but integrated acids and full mouth feel, offering a balanced composition and a touch of creaminess that holds it together front to back. Finish is long and fine. This wine has hit its stride after a somewhat awkward youth. A pleasant surprise, to me at least.
