February 23, 2023 - soft brown rim, and the wine follows. This bottle is declining, not much time left. Still a delicious glass, but drink up!

October 24, 2021 - beginning to show its age, light brown rim, mature, layered flavors. Aromas of dark fruits, soil, spices. Tannins have softened, but structured, well balanced and slow dancing on tongue. Well done.

April 29, 2017 - Popped and poured then followed for 4 hours. Medium ruby hue. Nose of anise, licorice, rock, violets, forest floor. Full of Nuits rocks, iron, and gravel on the palate but also revealing a delicious core of black raspberry and red plum fruit jetting across the tongue. Firm, structured tannin and moderately fresh acidity providing relief for all that structure. Longer finish of blue fruit, iron, and a bit more iron. Fun to drink and accessible, this wine gave pleasure for its unapologetic sense of origin.

March 10, 2015 - Wonderful nose with slight barnyard, violets and red fruit compote. Very balanced, great acidity and fine tannins. Quite flawless and finally in its drinking window.

March 5, 2015 - I don't know what it is with Nuits St. George Burgundies, but they are a unique blending of different grapes and different hemispheres. I get Oregon funk on the nose, but tinged slightly towards a Cayuse-style of funk. On the palate, I get an initial Cayuse rush of bacon, soy, umami that is quickly followed by crisp, clean burgundian red fruit. In my mind I see "Industrialized western civilization meets monastic France" in a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" feel. Still, while unique, the wine is pretty simple, not much complexity with a short, uninspiring finish. Makes you think, but I doubt enough impression to remember.

May 11, 2013 - Nice nose or cherry, bacon and dried herbs. Quite restrained on the palate, lots of acidity, fine tannins but not as ripe as the nose suggests. A fine village wine that's ready now and can age gracefully another 3-4 years.

December 7, 2012 - Update to my notes on 1/3/2012: Fruit flavors have muted. Otherwise still a simple, thin wine with firm tannins and acidity that outweigh the fruit. Not sure if aging is going to help this wine. (This is a good reminder why I buy very little Burgundy wine, even though they are my favorite. The cost is so much more prohibitive than even Bordeaux for a proven good bottle of wine.)

January 3, 2012 - Very light, muted nose of fresh fruits. Clear red color. Simple on the palate, cherries and berries abound. Substantial, firm tannins and acidity still outweigh the fruit. Don't touch for a few more years.
