February 11, 2024 - This started out great from PnP and hit its stride after an hour of air. The blueberry unctuousnes of the PS melds perfectly with the fruit of the cab sauv. Fantastic!

July 1, 2023 - A 50-50 mix of Petite Sirah and Cab.....my first ever of Kata. Did not realize this was from the Bourn Vineyard, til just now when going to post this note. This is very dark purple/opaque in the glass. There is a bit of that multi vitamin smell on the nose even after a 3-4 hour decant. However, the nose is redeemed by the wonderfully strong violets! The palate is very much dominated by the black flavor profile of the Petite Sirah fruit at this point, with broad drying tannins and a rather short finish. It's hard to see or feel much other than that in this wine and I personally find PSirah a very one-dimensional grape. While this wine is very well made, it just doesn't float my boat as much as all the other wines we've had. I don't know if this is solely because of the grape or if it's that Bourn has always been my least favorite of the Beck vineyards? No matter the winery/maker, Bourn has just never had a flavor profile that floated my boat. I literally haven't bought a Bourn wine from anyone in 10 years, now. I just don't know what it is about this vineyard. This bottle a 91 for the pretty violet nose and the quality winemaking to me.

June 30, 2023 - Deer Valley Palooza in 3 stages with Mark1npt and Agelvis; 6/25/2023-7/1/2023 (8,100 ft): Vitaminy nose, dark purple color and dark fruit to match. Baking chocolate on the palate, cotton ball texture. Some baking type spices. I liked this, but I think I would like it better with a little more age .

June 30, 2023 - Four hour decant. Deep dark electric purple magenta color. Intense violet, multivitamin, and boysenberry. Dry, cottony palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish. 50% CS and 50% PV

My first ever Kata. Big thanks to Decanting Queen for supplying this and hosting us at her cool Deer Valley place. Tried eight or so nice reds last night and tonight’s lineup may be even better.

February 24, 2023 - No notes. Wine needs a min of hour decant to begin to showcase its goods. Great mouthfeel, flavor profile and structre. Fun unusual mix of 50% Petit Syrah & 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Nothing exceptional but was enjoyable.
