November 15, 2023 - With prices continuing to rise on older Rayas, it is almost impossible to taste them these days. This bottle was not quite as good as other examples, yet it still had a lot to offer starting with its nose of dried roses, peppery, black raspberries, kirsch, olives, truffle, and herbs. Medium-bodied, silky, and fresh, with the perfect light touch to the kirsch and red plum finish. Drink from 2023-2029.

No idea what it could be but this was heaven. Beautifully lush and fruity but no marmelade, no boiled fruits. Elegant and powerful likewise. I have no experience with such wines but maybe close to reach his peak. 99-100

January 19, 2023 - A Quartet of Rayas: Haven't had this in ages, and this was a great bottle. We all loved it and it was ranked second in our quartet (1978,1989,1990,2005).

November 16, 2022 - La Tablee: Rayas Dinner with Gregory Castells & Martine Saunier (La Mercerie): From a magnum. This was the wine I was most excited about since this was the wine that totally blew me away at a tasting we did a few years ago and it's not one that you get to try that often. So it's possible that some of this note is that my expectations were so high esp with how much I loved all of the wines before but this was just very good. Again maybe a bit of brett to this which took away from that overall elegance. It's more evolved. Fruit is a bit less pure and sweet. Still a wine that I'd really like, but the '95 and '08 showed better on this night.

October 21, 2021 - Ruby red in the glass, with a slight brick at the rim. On the nose soaring aromatics of macerated strawberries and raspberries, incense, fresh herbs, underbrush, dried cherry, Christmas cake, and almost a machine shop type aroma that I often in get in aged Riesling. This wine is incredibly complex and distinctive; it could only come from one place. What privilege to taste this. I truly thought this one would elude me.
