Community Tasting Notes 6

May 24, 2014 - Last of my three bottles and a very lovely wine. The textural depth cossets the palate, while mildly spicy, filigreed, pinot-y flavor and acidity titillate. Can't say this bottle is unquestionably GC in stature, but I wouldn't mind having more at the price.

June 22, 2013 - Opened in a state of alarm after reading Keith's note. This bottle was fresh, with zingy acidity, medium body, and fine, resolved tannins. High-pitched and fine; balanced substance, lightness, and very good intensity. A good bottle, giving much pleasure now.

I don't know that this wine would rank among the most distinguished of GCs, as I very rarely drink in this range, but it's certainly on a par with excellent CdN Premier Crus I've tasted.

September 9, 2012 - Deep garnet, the nose is dominated by dark fruits, a hint of chocolate and alcohol. In the mouth, deep, intense and very round - mostly cherries, a bit raspberry, quite long. Not much tannins, not very complex, but a very nice drink. I just feel that for the pedigree it should be more complex.

December 15, 2007 - Drank beautifully from the start but has the structure to last many more years. fruity balanced wine; great fun.

(Castagnier Guy Charmes-Chambertin) Deep cherry red colour. Wow! the nose is a rather fine, pronounced and concentrated cherry cordial, perhaps just a little cream too. Really good concentration with fresh, well balanced acidity and very smooth and well covered tannins. The finish is just a little tart but with pretty good length. Super aromatics here - normally I buy Castagnier's Clos de la Roche, but it seems that I also need space for the Charmes from 1999!
