April 19, 2019 - Was past its drinking window, alas. No fruit, body or finish to speak of, just the ghost of some deep plum and tobacco. But it was nice in its prime.
March 3, 2017 - Initially very disjointed, with a hot nose. With about 30 min it became better integrated, lots of green notes with bright sweet cherries on the palate. The nose is intially pretty hot and unexpressive. After an hour it has settled down into a pretty nondescript Ca cab with oak, mineral, and sweet cherry notes predominant, not terribly complicated. Flavor profile like Artemis but more expensive. I don't consider this a good value.
August 10, 2015 - Shows slight bricking, but it doesn't look as old as it reveals on tasting. Integrated fruit, plum and red currant jelly, a little leafy, old tobacco and musty leather. Tannins are resolved completely. This is surprisingly advanced. If you want a foursquare example of what an old cabernet of good but not great character tastes like, this is an exemplar. It's better than my tone suggests, but, sorry, I expected more.
Usually I think the WS reviews' drinking windows are all too brief, but they got it right this time. Drink up, because it's on the downslope.
December 21, 2014 - This wine is i a prime drinking window. Great nose with floral notes and the fruit is generous. Classic Napa cab. Probably time to drink up in the next year.
October 11, 2014 - Has an unusual lightness and acidity to it, while still offering robust cab fruit.
September 7, 2014 - Beautiful integrated lush CA Cab. Hits on all the notes and has wonderful coffee/espresso with some nice bright cassis like fruit. Absolutely delightful. Probably entering a 2 or 3 year plateau. Drink or hold. (Previous bottle must have been flawed)
August 23, 2014 - Disappointing - think it's time to drink up!
June 7, 2014 - Fading a bit, but still tasty. Drink up.
September 22, 2013 - Elegant wine. Medium garnet color fading a bit at the rim. Black cherry, vanilla and spice on a nice nose. Along with the black cherry palate comes a spice and black tea flavor and a bit of tobacco. Very nuanced. Primary fruit stands down on a medium plus finish. Tannins still present but integrated. Drinking beautifully. No need to age further.
March 23, 2013 - Primary fruits, lacking the complexity and depth usually associated with Stag's Leap cab.
