May 25, 2022 - 2012 Pinot Tasting + some lovely supplementals (@Private location, Sersheim): Glass: Gabriel Standard
Unfortunately drunk after a long range of other wines. Classic Willi Schaefer. Wonderful balance and harmony. Never loud. But also with an amazing acidity, that is perfectly integrated and gives the wine a beautiful freshness. Long and lingering finish. This bottle was at its full peak. 92-93

February 1, 2019 - It's never easy to pick the "right time" to open a bottle. Will it be ready? Will it be closed in and not up to par? In a spur of the moment decision, I grabbed this, and opened it. It was an orphan bottle, so the "oh my it's the last one" reluctance would have kicked in if I waited too long before grabbing the corkscrew.

No regrets! The wine was at an apex. It still showed fruit, but it had developed mature tones that played on the same level. The aromatics bounced from one scent to another. Each sip was a whirlwind of flavors. It was as close to a perfect time to open the bottle as I could have guessed. It was comforting, and exciting. There was no temptation to play the "fruit salad analysis", as the wine was complete and integrated. To break it down would have been to destroy its harmony.

September 30, 2013 - Deep colour. Intense, sweet, rich, ripe and long. Excellent balance of fruit and acidity. Nicely mature but not old.

June 19, 2012 - Utterly spellbinding. Incredibly fragrant, layered and complex with layers of fresh Mosel fruit, florality, lemon cream and developing smokiness combining flawlessly. There's certainly plenty of richness and sweetness here, yet it conveys flavour with the same ethereal lightness the Kabinett showed. A stunning wine to sit down with and follow, as it captivates from the first sip and then keeps unveiling layer after layer with time.
