December 6, 2023 - Nez intense entêtant de fraise très légèrement confiturée, rose, âtre, note médicinale. La bouche est d'une extrême finesse, tanins soyeux et caressants, intensité aromatique, longueur. Une bouteille marquante

November 21, 2023 - The ‘16 Monvigliero was again an incredibly distinctive and enjoyable wine, but didn’t show as well as it did in 2021 or 2020. This bottle was from the same trustworthy cellar as the bottle I had in 2021. I’m not sure if my lower rating of this bottle more so reflects the wine itself or my own preferences. I’ve been fortunate to drink a lot of Monvigliero lately, and I guess I am starting to tire a bit of the wild whole cluster aromatics of this wine. Based on a recent bottle of ‘19 Castelletto, I think I prefer the Burlotto bottlings of Cannubi and Castelletto that are more classic expressions of Nebbiolo.
The nose was super perfumed from first pour onwards, with little change in the glass. I found super ripe, candied red and blue berry fruits and floral tones, menthol, exotic spices, and olive tapenade. The aromatics were so candied and sweet, while also suggesting an intense, high acid wine with the olive tapenade and almost brine like aromatics. On the palate, the wine is medium to light in body, showing very finessed with minimal tannin perception. I found super sweet, candy like red and blue fruit and floral tones like on the aromatics, spices, mint, and herbal notes. The wine showed medium acidity and lacked some of the inner sweetness and acidic drive of the ‘16 Rinaldi Brunate alongside it.
One observation I had with this bottle is that the Monvigliero showed best around cellar temp. As the bottle warmed up, the alcohol was noticeable - not because 14.5% is necessarily that high these days, but because this is such a light bodied wine that the alcohol sticks out more than it does a fuller bodied Barolo.10 people found this helpful Comments (3) -

July 16, 2023 - Gorgeous floral nose. Violets. Blackcurrant.
Very elegant on the palate, lovely intensity, almost imperceptibly fine tannins. Sweet and very pure blackcurrant fruit.
This is absolutely gorgeous. I thought it would be infanticide to open it but it’s delicious already and perfectly balanced.8 people found this helpful Comment -

June 25, 2023 - My first time with this producer. Deep complex nose of dark fruit, raspberries, dried roses, spice, orange peel and white pepper. Full and smooth on the palate. Held up well on day two.

January 28, 2023 - Just a small pour without seeing the bottle. While I was told this was the Verduno, I was convinced it had to be the Monvigliero, something I was later able to confirm. Lifted and elegant, with remarkable power and tell-tale notes of strawberries, orange peel and spice. Amazing.
