Community Tasting Notes 7

October 4, 2021 - Serve it cold and serve it with a decent amount of air - preferably decanted for an hour. The first few sips on PnP are a bit too muscular and angular. After some air, it starts to fan out nicely. Overflex is replaced with acidic verve and zippy drive. Slaphappy fieriness wanes to more enlivened freshness. Edges are more efficiently curved as the execution becomes less uber propulsion-driven.

A solid performer as usual (if but more punch this time around), with the lime zest and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice at the forefront, with some silvergrass and fresh raw pea notes adding interest. Drink or hold, as this has decent power and thrust that won’t be going away anytime soon.

May 4, 2021 - Napa - All my COVID finds; 4/29/2021-5/5/2021 (Napa): Not a huge fan of Sav Blanc in general so this may be a little unfair. I could tell it was clearly a well made wine but just wasn't for me.

April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): FRESH GRAPEFRUIT! ...with lemon-lime, guava, clementine, white flowers, and dry grass notes all making for a compelling Sauvignon Blanc. Year in and year out, Sam Kaplan crafts an exceptional representation of this varietal. There is a beautifully balanced flavor expansion here, finishing fresh and slightly creamy on the tail. Drink now and over the next few years to best harness its true brilliance, though I suspect these will last for longer than most folks normally lend credit and expect from domestic Sauvignon Blanc. Well done! 95 points.

April 22, 2021 - This is always one of the best SB's in the valley, and this vintage carries on the tradition. Aromas of grapefruit, peaches, lemon zest and orange peel burst from the glass. Extremely fresh and vibrant, it shows an abundance of citrus fruit, with crisp acidity and big time streak of minerality as it transitions to the mid palate. With air, it gains weight and shows a creamy, powerful core complimented by super refined tannins, a silky mouthfeel and a long finish. This is fun to drink. These also actually age, so you can be comfortable laying them down for a while.

April 22, 2021 - Deep straw color. Guava, marmalade, passion fruit, and subtle grass on the surprisingly rich nose. Super smooth and slightly creamy palate. Soft acidity, but still provides nice structure. Wine contains 4% Semillon.
