November 25, 2012 - (14.1%) 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon – A friend gifted me this one a while back. Kept waiting for him to come back so we could share it together but finally gave up. He should be sorry I did!

Red fruits on a pine, resiny nose backed by a cracked black pepper. On the palate you get nice, round fruit with a chewy texture backed by the tertiary, drier notes of leather, herbs, and earthiness. The finish shows lush, spiced fruit with lingering, chalky tannins. Great structure here. Easily has another 5+ years ahead. One of the best Merlots I’ve had and would surely buy more of this one ($30) today if I could…

Wine Geek Notes: 100% Estate Grown from the Oak Knoll district in the Napa Valley, aged 17 months in French and American oak

September 25, 2011 - Wonderful fruity nose, good body, and lingering taste. Enjoyed alongside Madrigal Napa 2001 merlot, which was nice but not much fruit; earthy.

April 4, 2009 - Popped and poured with pepper crusted fillet. Showing some age, pleasant plummyness, slight balsamic and leather component adds interest. Still heavy overlay of vanilla/ginger bread icing. Black cherry, herbs and red plum fruit on palate. Sweet fruit but not over the top. Still grippy tannins. Solid.

March 22, 2009 - 91 - three years in my cellar was worth the wait. really chewy for a merlot. lots of great upfront fruit and vanilla. mid-palate lighter like a merlot. solid finish. wish i had a case of this.

September 8, 2007 - Nice tasting Merlot. The Cab adds a bit of dryness to it. Robust berry and black cherry fruit aromas accented by a hint of toasty vanilla. On the palate, the wine’s texture frames rich, deep, plummy flavors that culminate in a long, lush finish with round, savory tannins.
