Community Tasting Notes 5

January 25, 2024 - After the disappointment of the last bottle, I opened another, but this one seemed even worse. Had unfortunate hints of a bit of oxidation. Can it really be that keeping these bottles over the summer in my pit cellar has damaged them? Or that they so suddenly went dumb? I don't know. Where is the delicious, classy bottle I had less than a year ago? I can see me opening another one to check again.

December 24, 2023 - Was a bit closed up on us today. It suffered by comparison with the other white wine we started with, which was so much more opulent and open for business. But even on day 2, was still not right, so I'm going to call this flawed.

June 11, 2023 - Grapes sourced from Elgin and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. Grapes whole bunch pressed then cold settled for a couple of days then fermented in 4th fill French oak then left on fine lees in barrels for 9 months. No malolactic fermentation . Quite bold canary color, notes of baked bread and apricots on the nose. Very crisp, well balanced, nice fruit as well as earthy notes.

June 3, 2023 - With the lovely rich, lanolin or waxy mouthfeel, and orange water elements, a really classy wine. In great balance with good acid, I imagine this can live for a long time. I've not come across a subsequent vintage of this, I suspect these wines are rather unfashionable.

December 27, 2019 - Clear pale gold in the glass. Clean medium+ intensity nose of hay, asparagus, thyme, apricot, pineapple, liquorice(?) and a touch of vanilla. Very unusual—makes you think a while. On the palate dry, medium+ acid, medium body. Citrus-driven palate with a touch of blossom (rose?) underpinned by a strong core which brings to mind something woody, resinous, sappy? Very long, very balanced. Excellent, atypical and interesting.

    P.S. What a beautiful label!
