September 3, 2021 - Beautiful taste like a syrup but not overly sweet. Strong fruit flavors all throughout.
August 30, 2021 - Very nice Porto! Fairly complex. A wine to contemplate. Went great with Fig Cake.
August 14, 2021 - Half bottle. I don't drink much port at all so not able to judge this comparatively as well as others who drink port with some frequency. But this struck all of us tasting it as simply delicious, with no excess weight at all and restrained but complex fruit of real depth. Such good balance one hardly notices the sweetness. Lovely. The second bottle of two drunk over the last month - with consistent notes. Bought on release.
July 31, 2021 - Wine Enthusiast had it right when this was released. A perfect bottle of Port.
Cherries Jubilee, Dark Belgian Chocolate, Blackberry and a hint of Clove. Very Rich and Opulent, as well as silky smooth with all that alcohol. Just amazing what comes out of this bottle. Alas this is my last bottle. But I will remember it.
July 23, 2021 - For The Love Of Port 16th Anniversary Tasting; 7/23/2021-7/24/2021 (Seattle, Washington): Extremely dark amber-purple in color. Cola and brown sugar notes on the nose, as well as some of the classic mint notes that Vargellas is known for. The palate shows some light red fruit but the excellent balance and complexity turn the mid-palate into waves of flavor that are well integrated and so very enjoyable. The long finish shows more of the great balance.
April 28, 2021 - Classic black and red fruits with the red fruits being the sweeter of the two. Alcohol is at 20+% is well hidden. Very smooth and approaching a level of silkiness. Hints of clove and underbrush. The finish seemed about 15 seconds shorter than my last bottle, but still a fantastic Port.
March 3, 2021 - See my previous note; I thought I had taken sufficient time to make a tasting note, but this port surprised me. Every following day after my note this port showed more intensity, more depth and more complexity, resulting in impressions of chocolate and even of coffee.
February 28, 2021 - Medium deep ripe and sound colour, a smooth and friendly bouquet, not very complex and missing in the taste the real concentration to impress,
This port is smooth, round, no edges and ends friendly and not too sweet. The 90 points due to a good balance overall.
December 29, 2020 - Dark fruit nose, licorice, menthol. Palate is sweet, firm, cough medecine. Delic and balanced such that everyone wants a second glass
December 3, 2020 - 1.5 tblsp of sediment. Give it an hour to decant as more subtle notes emerged at that point. Classic black and red Douro fruit. Very smooth. Overripe but not jammy. Some lovely dried herbs and Oak notes in the background. Long finish.
