January 30, 2014 - What a fabulous bottle: zesty, robust and complex. Beautiful aromatics of tart citrus and crushed shells. Notes of lemon/lime, honeyed wax on the palate, with a fabulously glycerined texture contributing to a 45-second+ finish. The 16.6% alcohol goes unnoticed (until you try to stand up!). Well done, Greg.

November 26, 2010 - Tart apple with hint of tangerine/peach on finish.

June 20, 2010 - Spending more time thinking white wines these days, and having drank some Chablis this past Friday night, headed back to chardonnay ala Greg Brewer. Gold colored with a thicker texture, a honey-like feel. Green melon, orange oil, and lime, finally expressed through a tart apple-like acidity with anise seed/black licorice note. I think where this wine diverges from Chablis is the texture, which is rich and glycerine-like. Listed alcohol is 16.6% but even searching the aromatics and finish for heat or booze, it's not appearing. Some sea shell shows too but the fruit and texture hide this quality underneath. Ready to drink but enough acidity and length to suggest it can go longer.

October 8, 2008 - This wine (as well as the Diatom website) just screams vintner auteur. From the first taste it is clear that you are drinking a philosophical statement as much as you are a bottle of Chardonnay. The wine is fermented at very cold temperatures in neutral containers (not specified on the website), malo-lactic fermentation is inhibited, aging takes place on the lees, and the wine is bottled before autolysis (the breakdown of the yeast cells) takes place. Piercing Chardonnay aroma of lemon and minerals. Crisp and lush at the same time with apples, lemon, and mineral flavors. The alcohol comes in at 16.6% so I was very happy the wine was split between 6 people. Not a wine that I would want to drink regularly, just as I would not want to see Bergman films regularly. But, it is certainly a wine that is worth seeking out for its distinctive character.

June 18, 2008 - No formal notes. Needed time to open up or possibly warm up. It had pure Chardonnay fruit backed by mineral notes. Well built, nice mid-palate, the finish was long and lingering. I should comment on the alcohol since it is 16.6%, I didn't perceive any until the wine warmed to a temperature out of the normal serving range.
