October 3, 2021 - Still a youthful ruby red in color with very slight bricking around the edges. Superb aromas of dark red berries, garrigue, toasted herbs, hint of leather, cigar smoke and a faint hint of mulch. Super silky and balanced on the palate showing sweet dark red crushed fruits, hint of savory spices, medium acidity and a long finish that shows earthy/tobacco perfume. This is superb.

October 3, 2021 - (Mostly) 2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Very nice sweetness and fruit on the nose. A good dose of herbal quality (garrigue?), and some darker fruit. Riper and full-bodied, and surprisingly clean, especially for Pégau. The inordinately dirty Laurence next to this made me think whether there was some Dorian Gray situation going on here where all of the nastiness ended up in that bottle instead... My 1st, group's 1st.

October 2, 2021 - Opened and drunk over the 4 hours or so, I don't drink as much CDP as I used to but still enjoy the odd bottle from traditional wine makers with some age on them. A very clean bottle with no hint of brett, very creamy on the nose, sweet red fruits and Provençal herbs and bricking thru out. No hint of alcohol on the nose or palate and label says 13.5 abv. Not as rich and full on the palate, on the elegant side even for CDP and I slightly preferred the nose, but an enjoyable wine all in all. Mature and ready to drink, but I'm sure well stored bottles will hold for awhile.

September 12, 2021 - this bottle was still quite good. Light reddish color. Opened for an hour and then drank over the next few hours. Light tannins, slightly earthy taste with good fruit flavors. Pleasantly suprised

August 5, 2021 - From a pristinely cellared bottle, this wine was decanted off of its substantial sediment and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours. Medium garnet with bricking at the rim, it is aromatically expressive of Morello cherries, dark bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, clove and cocoa. Medium-bodied and with good acidity, it has well-integrated alcohol (13.5%), fully resolved tannins and flavors that mirror the nose. Although the middle is dense and the finish is long, there is a modest degree of maderization that is pervasive from the mid-palate all the way through the back end. While still pleasurable, there is no doubt that this pedigreed Châteauneuf was (like many of us) better in its younger days. Drink now.
