February 25, 2020 - Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Drunk over 4 hours. Dark red core, lighter at rim, no bricking. Effusive sweet/aged complex nose emerges from first opening, with dark fruits, floral notes, "Margaux-berries," clean moist earth, tea, spice. Medium body, good balancing acidity, mostly resolved tannins still noticeable on the finish, flavors follow the nose with a hint of green adding to the complexity. Medium finish. Not a big, powerful wine but an old-school Margaux. Not at all tired or over-the-hill, but I like them with age. Should hold at this level for years. Excellent.

January 26, 2020 - Very nice bottle, very good conditioned bottle. A bit tight to start with, decanted for 1 hour, lovely aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, leather, tobacco leaf and warm pepper spice. On the palate very balanced, nice tannin integration and the fruit is still evident. Not a powerful wine but very elegant and enjoyable. Very fine example of good classic Bordeaux. Won’t recommend cellaring long term would drink in the next 2-3 years.

December 25, 2019 - Decanted for a couple hours and it opened up nicely. Very well balanced and enjoyed at Christmas Eve dinner. Compared with a '95 Pierre Lichine and oddly the preference was for which ever one was tasted first.

October 12, 2019 - A touch musty but still had plenty of fruit

September 27, 2019 - Kuki'o Wine Trip 2019; 9/22/2019-9/28/2019 (Champagne & Bordeaux): A little tired, the ‘89 two nights ago was far more perfumed and expressive, although that bottle was from the Chateau and the floral high notes are trying to poke through here. Darker on the palate than the ‘88 Haut-Brion in the next glass.

(Chateau Margaux) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-good elegant fruit; sour cherry; very clean; little spearmint action; some dark cherry; some mulberry action; TASTE-great polish; I like this effort; some very young strawberries; a little tree bark; I like the elegance; nice Asian spice (paprika & rosemary); these little strawberries are taking it home for me; good long finish; good brightness of fruit; a very complex & thoughtful wine w/ dark, dark fruits; I really like the length; jammy, but not over the top; great polish and class; extremely well made; a great wine; can be cellared for another 5-10 years; a tremendous effort; RP-88; WS-95; GV-93

(Chateau Margaux) It had that 1988 quality of high tannin, high acid and somwhat lower toned fruit. It was good and I wish I could have had it on its own as I do not have that much experience with Chateau Margaux but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

(Chateau Margaux Margaux) Not quite the mature appearance of the 1989, and on the nose there is more restraint. Very classic, but rather more reticent, but what aromas it does release are very appealing. Very finely composed, broad and expressive on the palate. Clearly this is of very high quality, but it does not have the evolution and open approachability that the preceding wine possesses. There is a finely balanced presence of acidity and tannin, and good freshness, but really this needs cellar time, and a bare minimum of a decade is required I think. With that, it should be magnificent.
