Community Tasting Notes 3

April 18, 2024 - Great wine, no formal tasting notes taken which is a rarity…. Decanted over 2.5 hours.

Sight: heavy purple staining with sediment appearing in the bottle now. Not a lot but it’s notable enough that it should be decanted….

Nose: Very concentrated nose but I wouldn’t it call perfumed by any means it wasn’t leaping from the glass. Dusty Cocoa with gobs of Black and Blue fruit truly a Boysenberry liquor scent with French oak spice and a touch of vanilla.

Taste: The tannins are very fine and slightly chalking, this is a big wine with good structure and the acid is medium right where it needs to be. The black fruit here is super concentrated and delicious like a black/blue fruit liquor and there are secondary notes of tobacco, vanilla, Baking
Spice, and that dusty cocoa I love, it’s absolutely here !

Overall: The 2017 vintage while warm produced some early drinking stunners with there dark fruit concentration and ultra ripe tannins. I saw people say they didn’t know about this wine and that it felt disjointed and Im happy I didn’t perceive that here I just thought it was tight at first. Definitely can open and enjoy now I would say!

August 7, 2020 - This was not my favorite Sojourn or my favorite G3. Maybe too soon or maybe it will never get there. Plenty of fruit, more on the reddish side. Just missing something for me. It didn’t help that I left a glass to sit until the end of the evening and planned to drink it more thoughtfully with notes, but as I was about to take a sip there was thunder and my 100 lb wimpy German Shepherd freaked out and tried to jump in my chair, and the wine went literally everywhere. So I have no notes and it was a big cleanup job.

April 20, 2020 - too early to rate, got from my bro-in-law, really liked the Home Vineyard cuvee of the same vintage (again from Big E) that we opened a couple weeks back, when I opened this it clearly was a bigger wine with more elements and complexity, first thought was "dirty" flavor.. then over a couple hours it settled down and was very nice with bold flavors of both fruit and complexity... have a feeling this wine needs at least 5 -7 years to show its really self
