January 14, 2024 - This Barolo was top drawer. Very elegant and Burgundian. I often struggle with the tannins, hot here. Yes, there is Nebbiolo structure but it is silky and elegant for this varietal. The aromatics are also very sophisticated. Clay, rose petals, sweet spices, some earthy notes. Very Grand. 96-97

February 4, 2023 - Festa dal Barolo AM tasting

A deep nose. This and the Oddero had the most profound noses of the morning. Balsam, tar, roses, with terrific clarity and purity of the fruit. Expansive yet focused on the palate. To steal a word, a spherical wine with. Grand Cru depth delivered with a sense of ease. Power without heaviness. Beautiful inner mouth perfume. Finishes with tar, balsam and savory notes on the back end. It's weird, but for me Vietti's wines are technically amazing, but sometime are almost too pure and too "perfect". I do not mean to throw shade at all. This is a fascinating, not blows, not overdone by any means. A very impressive, beautifully made wine that I wish had a little more character. 95 for me, and a lot more for most people.

February 4, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo 2023 (The Pool, NYC): The 2018 Barolo Cerequio has come a long way since I last tasted it; dusty and floral in the glass, with a lovely blend of violet and lavender accentuating crushed black cherries. This hovers across the palate, seeming weightless at times yet impactful, with masses of tart red fruits and exotic spices that saturate. Fresh acidity maintains balance, as fine tannins grip the palate and leave inner rose and a primary staining of concentration to linger long. This is so powerful, yet also beautifully balanced.

February 4, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo: Masterclass (and burgers) (The Pool/Grill): Interesting reading my previous note on this wine because I am getting something very different this time. Still a great wine - still get that cherry and bright fruits and loveliness but now the tannin is maybe a touch more pronounced and this wine is kindof a monster. Intense with elegance. Worth getting for sure. Interesting because I think this is the one wine that Luca will have made soup to nuts of this vineyard so likely to be something special.

February 4, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo 2023: The '18 Cerequio is a stunning young Barolo, and in my view, the best Barolo I've tasted in 2018. In a lineup of 15 wines from 2018, it especially stood out for how it combined everything - aromatic intensity, sweetness of fruit, and structure - whereas most wines in 2018 were missing something.

The nose was intensely perfumed with pure red cherry and pure red roses. It is super floral and the purity of the red fruit tone is beautiful. I also found some exotic spices, while a touch of orange peel added a top note to the fruit profile.

On the palate, this was clearly the most intense wine of the tasting in a good way, with a sense of depth and structure not found anywhere else in 2018. The wine is medium in body with real tannic structure, but the tannins are very finessed. I found beautiful, incredibly sweet red floral and red berry tones. There's not a ton of complexity to the flavor profile at this point beyond the red fruit & red rose tones, but the purity and beauty of what is there is top notch. Bravo to Luca!
