  December 5, 2022 - 30th wedding anniversary, yay us! We made it! 3 of these in the cellar. Why wait? Life is short but sweet and so is Backus. Opened 4 hours in advance of special occasion dinner. Had to pop and pour a tasting. Gorgeous nose. Ruby color. First sip was roses or violets followed by extremely smooth, fine tannins, with a finish that lasted for, I swear, 20 seconds. Nice understated oakiness and a little menthol and I was just ultra stoked to watch it open during the evening. It was easily drinkable as is.
  
  Four hours later I corked it for the ride to our anniversary dinner. No corkage fee at out favorite restaurant was a bonus. Poured it with dinner. Beef, chicken or pork are all good choices. Youthfulness was apparent but so well made. Drinking like a champ right now with tens of years of longevity. Don’t hesitate on this one. Trips to Phelps winery and past Backus tastings came pouring back. Yes, Insignia and their other wines are perfect but Backus tops them all.

  November 17, 2021 - Deep dark in color! Opened up quickly for a new wine! Had to see what the experts saw in a news wine at 97-98 points. Beautiful floral nose with dark fruit, blueberry and black raspberry. The palate was exquisite with silky tannins, blueberry, black cherry and black raspberry wrapped in a nice wood essence. Finish was soft long and full of dark fruit and oh so good tannins. This wine will evolve to something really spectacular in several years. Next opening in two years!!
