June 4, 2023 - Very deep ruby. A notably savory rendition of Dr. Crane. On the nose this offers aromas of fresh blackberries, poached black plums, a touch of cassis, grilled mint, scorched earth and oak spice. Nearly full bodied on the palate with medium acidity, velvety tannins, a touch of alcoholic heat, and complex but still quite easygoing flavors of lightly cooked black fruit and earth. This drinks well with a short decant.

March 12, 2023 - This rich and layered Cabernet is drinking beautifully in the early going, with the kind of restraint you don't find often find when Crane is on the label. I've tasted - and appreciated - the younger hands working with this vineyard (e.g., Smith, Bevan, Kaplan, Touquette), but Hobbs succeeds by going in a different direction: yes, the fruit shows through - but in an earthy, balanced, and structured kind of way. In other words, it's classy and kind of Old World... but still Dr. Crane delicious.

Dark cherry in color and full in body, the wine offers pungent aromas of blackberry, espresso, graphite, and gravel. The flavors are powerful but elegant, with notes of boysenberry, mocha, leather, and tapenade, with a grainy and lively finish (that bears none of the sweetness sometimes found in more modern interpretations).14.8% alcohol. I know this isn't a new wine or winery, but damn it's tasty. 95-96 at the moment, with upside in 2025 and later.

January 6, 2023 - Rich, nearly opaque purple in the glass with sweet ripe fruits and dark chocolate. Layers of flavor with some pencil shavings, a really luxurious cab with all kinds of class

December 18, 2022 - My #2 WOTN in a tasting of 8 great Hobbs releases. This is a lean, elegant, classic terroir-driven cab that will keep improving for many years. Right up my personal alley in terms of profile.

May 31, 2021 - Second time around much less into this. Decanted 6 plus hours. Nothing but heavy oak with some bitter tart red fruit elements. Likely just needs time but a total waste now. Not scoring.
