November 4, 2021 - Retail $60. 100% Sangiovese. Whoa. I had an inkling that this would be fantastic, but I had no idea to what degree. Day One: Dark garnet in the glass with ruby highlights, this wine, even from the pop-n-pour was off to the races. Dark and blue fruit on the nose (blackberry, plum, blueberry) with black earth, minerality, and a gondola of intrigue. The palate does not disappoint: rich, yet reserved, a bit spicy, laden with subtle fruit and intrigue. Yowza. At this point, I am going to put a cork in it and try again tomorrow; I am sure this already stellar wine will improve over-night. Day Two: Surprisingly similar to day one with not much transformation at all. If I had to find something, it does seem a bit more layered (but only a bit). While I was wrong about finding a big improvement on Day Two, I was right on Day One; this is a fantastic wine. Whoa.

November 2, 2021 - Upon plop, a bit herbal notes Come across the cherry-driven boquet. Palette is not as fruit-driven as I expected wrt the nose of this young bdm. Heavy oak, some tertiary notes, young cherries and a bit floral. Balance is ok and truly a bdm in character but length is cut off by a bit too firm tannins and acidity.

October 17, 2021 - There’s a balanced sweetness through this and a real ripeness, offset by some fairly roughish tannin. Exotic star anise, dark chocolate and liquorice notes gives the rich cherry fruit some interest. This could age really well. 91

September 16, 2021 - This is an excellent showing, with beautiful aromatics.
In the mouth, there is a rich, classic Sangiovese impression with added omph.

Firstly, the acids are sprightly and the tannins are wide and intense. There is a beacon style acidity that makes me think of summery white Loire Sb-wines.

Secondly, there's a beautiful note of brett that livens things up and makes this quite interesting.

My first 2016 BdM, and definitely not my last.

September 1, 2021 - Montalcino 2021 Brunello Trip; 8/26/2021-9/1/2021 (Montalcino, Sienna Province, Italy): With vineyard visits finished, I hung out at the Enoteca di Piazza for some wine tasting to add to the list. 11th wine was Col d'Orcia. Burgundy/Brown colour, slight nose. Fruity first Brunello taste of dark fruits- cherries, blackberries, raspberries, quick finish, dry but no earthy flavours yet. Still needs time but there is potential for a good wine to develop.
