    Excellent.

November 9, 2019 - A polished, modern wine. The nose showed tones of vanilla, earth and tobacco swirling around a core of cassis and capsicum notes. It was still way too young on the palate, with chewy tannins and decent acidity coiled around a rich, modern core of cassis and blueberries. Still tight and primary. There was a purity to it, and a decent sense of structure and balance, but altogether a bit modern for my tastes.

November 2, 2019 - Absolutely delightful luscious nose and mouthfeel the blue and blackberry merge into a new delicious berry with knockout nose bedded with violets for the duration and tinged with sweet cedar. This is a complete effort that is perfectly structured and balanced. A drink all night, and then, another bottle wine, about the detail and whose finish lingers on into your dreams. And what a value at 2007 future price of $68.00. Could not find a wine like this in a restaurant for less than $240!

November 1, 2019 - Popped and drank over 2 hours. Evolved as time when on. Quite different than first bottle. Jury is out.

October 15, 2019 - Decanted about 1 1/2 hours before drinking, we re-visited this wine last night after almost a year since the last bottle, and were very impressed. Either the previous bottle was slightly flawed or the intervening twelve months had given the wine time to develop to its potential. The wine is definitely drinking now and looks like it has many years of pleasurable imbibing ahead of it. Dark purple in the glass, with structured legs, the nose has opened up to reveal brambly fruit. On the palate, the attack is sharp, broad and mouth-filling, with tremendous length. Really chewy, with notes of violet and finishing very high on the palate. We paired it with lamb, though this was not perhaps the perfect match. Nonetheless, it worked well. I look forward to the next bottle, which I will not wait another year for.

(Chateau Pontet-Canet (Pauillac)) A glossy, crimson hue. The nose has a powerful presence of fruit, although with a dark and stony character rather than the open and perfumed style found in the rest of the appellation. Dense, rather withdrawn, and on the palate a robust substance shows through, with a less fleshy seam of texture contrasted against it compared to some wines. But there is an elegance to it as well, a more perfumed edge to the fruits than the nose suggested. And the tannins, although coating the mouth, seem to bring the fruit along with them as they do so. This is a powerful composition which is showing very well with the broad, creamy, forest-fruit style that Pontet-Canet has these days. Very good indeed.

(Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac) Rather tight on the nose, rather grainy fruit character, certainly dark, certainly expressing what it has to some extent at least. There is an attractive purity to it, dark fruit character with a smoky edge. Middleweight on entry, the tannins ripe but coming through, although covered by the fruit and texture which has a good style if not as incredibly harmonious as the 2005. Lots of substance to it, ripely tannic. Supple elements to it, good collection of components here, but they need time to integrate. Good ripe tannic finish.

(Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac) There is a huge wealth of ripe fruit here, with a dense, savoury, macerated style. It has a sweet pastille-like intensity, but a savoury rather than sweet style, complicated by notes of tar and violets. A very serious palate follows, packed with dry and perhaps rather woody tannins, but there is plenty of fruit to match. It has austere structure, but I think it has sufficient substance too. A powerful wine which will need a lot of cellar time.
