January 4, 2024 - Lovely now.
May 11, 2023 - Redcurrants, oak, cranberry, raspberry, wrapped in a creamy caramel. Great value
October 16, 2022 - This was part of a mixed case so difficult to assess quality and value for money with the lack of a price reference. My overall assessment is good - none of the harshness I was fearing, and a good finish. It clearly doesn't match mature Burgundy, but then it's both geographically and historically not one of those. I suspect it would have been better in a couple of years. Would buy again.
April 3, 2021 - Quite a pleasant Pinot Noir, albeit rather light on both the nose and the palate. Some barnyard and straw are evident but so too is a sense of ripe strawberry fruit. This wine is soft, settled, well integrated and mildly complex. Not to the level of a fine Burgundian, of course, but for the price it is exceptional, especially from California (which can be pricey too). When I lived in San Francisco in the 80's and 90's I had had a number of wines from Schug (who assembled this for The Wine Society); I knew their style and skill and I liked their wines very much, so I was already predisposed to liking this. However, whether subjectively or objectively this is a thoroughly enjoyable PN.
We had it with roast duck; it cut through the inherent fattiness of the duck and complemented its flavours perfectly.
One of the better "Exhibition" wines I have had from the Wine Society.
December 15, 2020 - Youthful and ripe red fruits, and a lick of vanilla.
This wine is well balanced and definitely not overripe. The fruit flavours are bright and delicious, but is missing some complexity and some of the more savoury PN notes that you might hope to find.
June 19, 2020 - Youthful, redcurrant and strawberry scented high quality pinot. I will very much look forward to this in 3 years. A steal at the price.
June 4, 2020 - Pale Ruby
Freshly crushed strawberry
Tabacco
Low acid, low tannin, dry smooth, mud + aftertasteRed fruit raspberry, cherry. Savoury
