September 28, 2019 - After an hour of slow ox, it showed classic Brett and VA. Lot's of sediment, needs a decant. Paired fantastically with fallow deer shoulder with red wine and cognac sauce.

September 22, 2019 - This was fantastic. Decanted one hour, consumed over the next 3. Bing cherry, leather, bits of tobacco, soil, coffee and black tea. Nice acids up front, tannins are nicely integrated leaving a soft, long finish. No VA, no brett, just a pleasure.

September 17, 2019 - Ch. Musar Dinner with Marc Hochar (The Bunker, Crown Wine Cellars, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Pre-decanted for around 9 hours by Marc Hochar. Transparent, bright ruby colour. Quiet nose. Very tightly-coiled black/red cherry palate that reminds me of a Priorat. Too young and unevolved to demonstrate much length or resonance. Seems to have been crafted in a different style from 'classic' vintages. Has hardly evolved since I last drank it with Marc and Serge Hochar 8 years ago. Curious.

September 16, 2019 - Leaky cork. Medium ruby. Nose: smoky meat, black fruit, iron. Sweet black fruit on the palate, well-integrated tannins, medium bodied. Too sweet - not sure if this is due to premature oxidisation from the leaky cork. Long finish. 88-90. Prefer the 1999.

(Chateau Musar (Bekaa Valley)) A darkly coloured wine here, with some maturing tones - no surprise for Musar - which are giving it a lovely, fine, claretty hue. The nose is just lovely, very typical, with elements of spiced fruit and leather, but at the same time light-footed and ethereal, not a hint of cooked or stewed fruit anywhere. Certainly high-toned on the nose, but that seems very appropriate. It has freshness on the palate, with a little stony element providing some evidence of this. Plenty of substance on the palate, velvety texture supported by a wealth of tannin and acidity, these elements coming through to the finish, In this respect, good length. Lovely fruit, with nuances of orange peel, cloves and pepper. Delicious wine, and a real success for the Hochars.
