March 28, 2024 - Coffee, cherry, graphite. A warm fruit, plum. Racy but generally nicely dry. Gentle tannins on the finish. A charmer that begs another sip. But Becomes a little soft and sweet as it resolves. Just mid-weight. 13.5%. Zalto BDX. I end with a perhaps slightly generous 91 when I was looked at significantly higher earlier. First of a case. On watch to see if it falls between two stools of a top SHL and a classic Graves.

January 21, 2024 - Half a bottle after decanting 2 hours. Very pleasant. Medium bodied. Went well with prime rib. Remaining half not as good the second day even though Coravined.

Nose dominated by secondary and tertiary notes to start. Tons of toasted cedar, graphite, raw chanterelle, mulched leaves, and gunsmoke. Some grilled hatch pepper. Well-integrated oak adds soft baking spices. As the wine continued to open up, fruit started peeking through. Ripe dark cherry, strawberry preserves, and black currant all powerful and fresh. Complex and intense.
Palate is very well structured with wonderful mid palate presence and a long, satisfying finish. There is a bit of astringency as the midpalate leads into the finish that detracts from the overall experience. The wine is impeccably balanced.
This vintage is just missing some of the intensity and focus that makes SHL transcendent in its best vintages. It's an average vintage for me, but an average vintage from SHL still beats up on good and great vintages from lesser producers. When my price per bottle is around $60 USD, it's a no-brainer.1 person found this helpful Comment -

November 12, 2023 - Not the best SHL vintage I had but certainly nice enough to drink. Medium bodied, mature but ample time left, and enjoyable.

October 8, 2023 - One of my v2000 favorites. Black fruit bouquet and flavors are mixed with a bit of dry fruits and change in the glass brining different notes over time. It has characteristic spices and tobacco, but unlike in many other classified Bordeaux from this vintage, they don’t overwhelm,.
