July 21, 2023 - Red fruit, earth, some herbs. This bottle is on the decline. Still delicious with the faux chicken dish.
April 14, 2023 - Open in the bottle for about two hours. Nose is a bit poopy, earthy, green leaves, gravel and graphite. Palate is a bit more straightforward with strawberry compote, barely ripe plums, tomato leaf, more gravel. Tons of tannins, not quite in balance yet with the acidity (though it’s close) but hard to tell if it’s getting better or worse. In a great place right now though with a mushroom risotto and a braised beef cheek, so I say drink it up.
April 25, 2022 - Lovely perfume, red fruit, cherry, tar, oak and some herbs. Less tannic than in the past. Delicious with our free-range, roast, herbal chicken. And with the local, farm potatoes with herbs.
I believe this is our last bottle. It is always good to go out in a blaze of glory.
Great QPR for the original price of $16-$22 / bottle.
July 16, 2021 - Hard to believe this was the last of our '06. Still holding on pretty well, but you should consume within 24 hours or so after opening. We are fans of La Vieille Cure and in an off year for Bordeaux the '06 offered both quality and value. If you are holding on to a few bottles - I would consider moving up your consumption plans sooner than later.
March 16, 2021 - Lovely perfume, red fruit, tar, oak and tannins. Delicious with our free-range, roast, herbal chicken. And with the local, farm potatoes.
September 24, 2020 - Each to their own - I found this monolithic, dull and rather powerful. Half a glass was enough to convince me to open something else.
September 8, 2020 - Lovely perfume, red fruit, tar, oak and tannins. Delicious with the roast, herbal chicken.
Drink now.
September 5, 2020 - Rotisserie Chicken and Ratatouille Outdoors (Princeton, NJ): Drinking quite well. Lovely perfume, red fruit, tar, oak and tannins. A great pairing with the rotisserie chicken, potatoes and the ratatouille.
Drank better than the 2005 bottle to me.
July 18, 2020 - This wine affirms a few of my notions: '06 was a good vintage and LVC is a solid wine.
I found this to be surprisingly tannic but not unbalanced. Minimal funk but gobs of ripe luscious cherry fruit along with seasoned leather and citric acidity.
April 17, 2020 - A reliable and tasty wine, especially with our roast, herbal chicken and our Yukon Gold potatoes. Much less perfume than other bottles, but that might be a post-Covid manifestation of my nose, rather than the fault of the wine. [Addendum: my sense of smell returned April 24, so this was definitely me and not the wine]
Drink now or hold.
