Community Tasting Notes 8

May 26, 2018 - A note on a wine that has been in my cellar for a while and which I have not seen on store shelves in a long time.

Did not know what to expect from an Argentinian nebbiolo at 14 years. What we got was very interesting and pretty darn good.

Mature fruit and a bunch of tar. Good acid. Good balance. Different from a Piedmont wine for sure, but very charming. Fantastic match with dinner of local pork/rosemary/fennel sausage, corn, and swiss chard.

I would definitely buy this wine again (in the unlikely event I ever see it), and would be inclined not to open it before its 10th birthday (which is my general rule of thumb with its Italian cousins).

July 2, 2014 - I liked this. Big and dark, but with enough stallion in it to keep it interesting.

April 17, 2013 - Unusal bottle. Day 1--musty at opening; afraid it might be corked. that blew off, but thewine was a muddled mess. Days 2 & 3--much better wine. Correct wight. Fruit was austere but delinated and focued as exected from a nebbiolo wine. Not much in the way of tar or roses, but correct for the varietal.

December 14, 2011 - was skeptical as I'm not generally a fan of Argentine wines, but this stood out amongst many nice bottles at a dinner party. A somewhat modern interpretation of Nebbiolo. beautiful acidity and mouthfeel. fine/integrated tannins. balanced. Very enjoyable.

March 6, 2011 - Bummer. A hot, alcoholic monster. Burnt syrah-like palate, and no tar or roses on the nose. Hopefully on off bottle.
