Community Tasting Notes 5

September 19, 2022 - Delicate on the nose, some crushed stone aromas laced with red berry fruit, hints of gun powder, and blue floral notes. Lovely, high acid, fresh, easy going even though it remains noticeably tannic. It’s a simple wine, easy to drink even if it’s chiseled and structured, it's the style I like, long, sapid finish downright salty leaving a dusting of fine tannin on the finale. Wow, it is delicious, should be “better” but it hits all the notes for me. Love the freshness and liveliness here, and the sinewy length! Great showing

February 8, 2019 - very good nose, I am sure this bottle in its primary zone.

May 3, 2016 - Muted nose upon open, but really came alive after a few hours. Very tightly wound, and definitely needs air. Once it relaxes, shows vibrant red fruit with hints of secondary notes and complexity and great balance with firm tannins and fresh acidity. Leaves a lingering impression on the palate. 91-92.

June 30, 2015 - MWS Wine Tasting and Dinner (Restaurant Jaimie van Heije, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, NL): Light colour, mature but lively appearance; smoky nose, stalks, sous-bois, hint of rosehip and cranberry, opens up to roses; light and elegant palate, just avoids thinness, lovely balance and freshness, firm but mature tannins; very good length. Not an easy wine, but I like it.

January 31, 2009 - 2005 and 2006 Cote de Beaune (Beltramo's, Menlo Park): Pale. Sharp aromatics with some VA and licorice. Light weight, dry, lacking fruit with high acidity. This was jarring coming right after the lovely Pousse d'Or Volnay. Completely unsatisfying and an abominable value at $80.
