February 22, 2020 - Oh wow. Tabacco leaf and earth really gorgeous nose. And so silly on the palate. Amazing.

December 31, 2019 - The 1994 Pichon Comtesse is a reminder of decades past where failure to completely ripen was much more the norm. This has just as much pencil, herb, leather, and beef blood as it has fruit. Lithe and lean, it does have a certain elegance, but at this point it's too herbal for my taste. In sharp contrast to the supple quality of tannins in wines being made today, this comes off a bit rough on the palate. Vintages like this can really over-deliver at 12-15 years old, but underwhelm by age 25.

December 6, 2019 - Tasted double blind. The clear highlight here was the wonderful, intense tertiary nose. Certainly worth 95/96 points. A bit less exciting on the palate. Why no higher rating? There is a lack of fruit which makes it less intriguing and balanced. Still a joy to drink!

TN: Great nose with truffles, leather but first and foremost tobacco. The definition of tobacco. All centered around an intense mineral core. Same aromas on the palate with additional animalic notes. The only thing missing here is a stronger fruit component. Hence, it lakes a bit of balance and sexiness. Good structure with fairly good concentration (for an off vintage) and ok length.

Decanting: Decanted for roughly 2.5+ hours which seemed perfect.

September 28, 2019 - Aroma of forest floor cedar and hint of tobacco. Briary fruit initially and evolved to dark berry indeed there is a nice dense core of dark fruit which lingers on the rear palate for several seconds. Beautifully balanced wine. Pairs well with food especially dark chocolate. Only bought 6 and this was the best of the three I have had so far. This wine just entering maturity but has at least another decade of life.

(Chateau Pichon-Lalande Pauillac) Dark, deeply coloured, mature. An impressive nose, loaded with a super-sweet depth of smoky, meaty, blackcurrant nose. The palate keeps up appearances, with a wealth of big, sweet, glossy, creamy and textured fruit. Very accessible, voluptuous, although with a tannic backbone. Exotic. Balanced. Absolutely gorgeous wine. Approachable now, but with a little tannin still showing in the finish as well this has room for improvement yet.
