Community Tasting Notes 5

October 25, 2020 - Rich and opulent style of Sauvignon Blanc; white and yellow florals, citrus, white fruit, and berries. Golden color and some sediment, showing its age, but the nutty mildly oxidized notes balanced well with the fruit and floral characteristics with plenty of zip and acidity remaining.

August 21, 2020 - Darker color, hidden taste, it’s there but needed time to open. OK nothing special.

November 5, 2004 - London Italian Blowout.. 24 Tn's: (London): Just simply not what I am looking for in a white wine by Gaja. Just about as simple as you can get with nothing original in color, nose, or palate. A real disapointment especially since I brought this wine. With so many more wines to go I dumped it and moved on... By far the weakest of the whites tasted.

March 11, 2004 - Gaja Tasting hosted by Angelo Gaja (The Peninsula Hotel- Chicago): I thought this Sauvignon Blanc was more Chardonnaylike than either of the Chards poured (at least the nose was). Petrol nose. Notes of spice, pineapple and a bit of oak on the finnish. An austere wine. Gaja claimed this could age for 10 years. Otis and I thought it did not have the stuffing although he would know better than us. Light to medium bodied. 86 points.

March 10, 2004 - 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Lots of buttercream, citrus, and lemon rind on the nose. Fruity, citrus, mellon, with a solid acidic structure and lingering spicey finish. A look alike for a Bordeaux Blanc.
