2024-2044 vvWine.ch

September 29, 2020 - Bordeaux 2019 from barrel (From various locations, finally putting together these wine reviews): Same blend as in 2018, with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, but lower alcohol and a bit more elegant than the preceding vintage, which was already successful. The attack is dark cherry and blackberry, with savory tannin and some sea salt aspects that make the wine (13.2% alcohol) fresh and opulent. A long finish that has some cedar and wet stone freshness. “Even if a bit less powerful than 2016,” Bernard stresses that the level of precision has “improved since that vintage”. He says that 2019 has “a bit of 2015”, as well, but I sense greater freshness and a better vintage than the 2015. It is full degree less alcohol than the 2018. 94-96 Consistent notes at a German trade tasting on 8 July and at the estate in June.

June 29, 2020 - Rich dark color, the nose jumps from the glass and I can smell this across the table.
Immediately the depth and class becomes apparent after the esprit red. Fruits galore, this is so loaded, the oak is barely discernible, but peaks through on the length in form of BBQ spices. This wine is rich, but very regal with a caressing light mouth feel. The finish goes on while it dazzles with each sip. Wow, this is another stunner form Mr. Olivier Bernard and his team. A tremendous value for its class. Definitely a case purchase at the least.

Usually, the DDC blanc is a notch above the rouge, but this may be the second year in the row where the red is the star of the stable. 96-98
This was from a June 2nd sample, tasted earlier in June.

June 16, 2020 - Barrel sample from 8 June 2020. Complete and classical nose, pure and floral, elegant and well balanced, concentrated but light on its feet, not hugely expressive but nice spicy oak and velvety tannins, impressive length. 93-95.
