October 14, 2016 - A lot of alcohol. Probably should have decanted at least an hour before starting to drink. Good strawberry taste with some tar. Very drinkable.

March 2, 2012 - This was not good upon opening or even after first hour -- undrinkable. After a couple hors it came around -- kind of. Would think this is not past prime or bad bottle but less likely bad bottle as still had some flavor left.

May 16, 2011 - 5/13/11 Taster: Still fighting a cold
Wine: Tried the remaining 1/2 bottle (vacuvin air pumped out but kept room temp):
Dried fruit, flattened out unfortunately ('probably should have put it in my thermoelectric cellar);
still hot. Very little remaining nose of now burnt toast, some sulfur, and slight vanilla.
Summary: Possible the bottle wasn't taken care of before I got this close-out at retail store. Fairly characteristic though for Belle Vallee offerings for my palate (and no likelihood of this one ever approaching the upper tier e.g. Brewer-Clifton, Kosta Browne, etc.). -

May 12, 2011 - Food: Paired with smoky mesquite baked turkey loin, mushrooms, potatoes, acorn squash
Taster: Still fighting slight head and chest cold
Bottle: Ok condition (dried wax), no sediment
Decanting: Not decanted
Cork: Clean pull, dark burgundy/black bottom fine
Legs: Lots of thin legs
Nose: Cranberry, black cherry, good spices; a slightly past hint of green vegetal
Body: Big 2.5% to 3% milk weight
Taste: Black cherry, boysenberry, blueberry; slight heat; slightlyt off sour on the end
Finish: 20-25 seconts
Overall: 87 points, a bit rough
Recommendation: Probably the smoke on the Mesquite still overpowers this a bit; decant 1 hr. -
