May 25, 2021 - After an initial blast of bubbles that swarmed around the core fruit and almost completely disabling flavor expansion, this Jolivettes finally calmed down in the glass once it was allowed to get some air and develop a nicely delineated bead. So, give this a few minutes in the glass before sticking your face in it, otherwise you’ll just inhale spray spitting up your nose.

Once the effervescent mania had subsided, the Jolivettes performed as expected, with a gorgeous display of light red berry and yellow and orange citrus elements. Excellent focus and weight. Not too airy or steely; not too doughy or fruity. Finishes beautifully dry and refreshing. A keen execution of flavor all the way around.

2016 Vintage. 100% Pinot Noir. Disgorged 07/2020. 2g/L dosage. Approx. 300 cases produced.

January 24, 2021 - Well isn’t this different from the 2015. So creamy, rich and hefty that I asked Maillart if this too avoided Malos. “Indeed it did” he said, “that’s just the vintage. An extremely impressive and flamboyant Jolivettes that, for my palate, will benefit from cellar time.

January 16, 2021 - Young and vibrant blanc de noir Champ with an almost Vin Gris like colour. Red apple, generous intense mousse, pleasant plumpness and mineral note. You can feel in the extreme tension in this wine there is more to come! Very nice Champagne.

January 8, 2021 - Pouring a translucent light salmon color (akin to a light colored Rosé), Maillart's 2016 Jolivettes quickly goes from spritely and radiant on the initial attack to a deeper-pitched down shift at the perfect moment to coast along the mid-palate, and then revs back up for a speedy and tension-filled finish. Notable power here, with notes of raspberry and black cherry water, orange peel, tart red apple flesh, lemon seed, and Himalayan salt rock taking just enough time to pause midway through the delivery before launching off to the radiant finish.

More zestful and nervy than its fleshier 2016 Mont Martin sibling (which is 100% 1er Cru Pinot Meunier), the Jolivettes (100% Grand Cru Pinot Noir) is too able to put its beefiness (by Champagne standards) on display, but also accompanies it with a healthy dose of punchy vigor and drive. Both brothers have their smooth and suave sides to them, but the Jolivettes flexes a significant bit of brawn over the Mont Martin. There is a chiseled, "Drop and give me twenty Private!" intensity with the Jolivettes, whereas the Mont Martin is more of a draft-dodger coffee shop poetry slam hugger type. Some of this may also have to do with the comparative dosage levels, with the Mont Martin double the Jolivettes (4g/L vs. 2g/L). The Jolivettes will certainly appeal to those who fancy driven potency with measured opulence.

I am drawn to both for different reasons, but I do suspect the Jolivettes may lap the Mont Martin in the long run given its heightened Grand Cru endurance and zeal. 97+ points. Drink now and over the next 10+ years.

Jolivettes: 2016 Vintage. 100% Pinot Noir planted in 1987. Bouzy Grand Cru. Disgorged 07/2020. BdN Extra Brut - 2g/L dosage. 3640 bottles produced.
